News of the Week: January 30, 2018

Are you using video yet?

The CEO of Hootsuite penned a piece for Forbes on what he thinks the top social media trends will be in 2018. One that stuck out for us? Video. We’re big on video. It’s cheap. It’s quick. And it’s a powerful way to promote your brand. Have an iPhone? You have the equipment to produce content. By 2018, Cisco forecasts that 82% of all consumer Internet traffic will be video. We believe it. We’ve helped clients produce video, from hi-res produced affairs to short snackable videos for Facebook. We’d love to show you how we can make your brand a star. Let’s chat.

Facebook, feeds, and you

If you haven’t been following the Facebook news (when isn’t there news about Facebook?), they’re changing the algorithms to feeds for publishers (that means you and us). What does this mean? Our top 3 high-level takes are:

1. Less passive video. Yes, we just evangelized how awesome video was, however, Facebook is going to want to see more video that engages. This means shorter, message-driven videos and ones that are less promotional. Also, live videos.

2. More community-driven posts. If you aren’t engaging with your followers already (and you should be!) be prepared to be punished with less likes.

3. Less likes might be OK. Here’s a question: Would you rather be engaging with your core customer base or everyone on the planet? Your likes might be more tough to get, but the people liking your content will be the ones that count. You’re just going to have to work harder to earn them.
