Football and making a huge PR play

Every year people gather to watch the big game (we can’t call it by its real name and really don’t want to hear from NFL lawyers), but also to watch the mega-expensive ads. Last year’s game brought in an estimated $419 million from advertising.

Did you know that many of those iconic commercials from previous years, including the famous Herding Cats commercial, were shot at Tejon Ranch, just one-hour north of LA?

Our client offers 270,000 acres for the film industry some of the most diverse and beautiful locations found anywhere in the U.S. The land often doubles for the African savannah, European countryside, Midwest landscapes, rugged mountains, sweeping valleys, wildflower fields, vineyards, and other faraway places.

To help illustrate this beautiful landscape and our client, and the fact that the Ranch doubles for famous commercials, we went to work and pitched a very targeted list of media, offering high-res video and imagery. This included the local media as well as places like Curbed. Needless to say the response was overwhelming. The Bakersfield Californian ran a piece and Curbed produced and posted a video (much of it provided by Tejon Ranch) leading up to the game.

Moral of the story: Well, for one, hire us. But also, always look for ways to offer the press pre-packaged (and great) content and fun, relevant news.

Social media stats that make you go hmmm

This will either alarm you or delight you: There are now almost 2.5 billion social media users. And, not surprising, many of these users are on their mobile devices. In a study done by Facebook, of 100 people watching TV at home, 94 of them had their smartphone in their hands while watching TV. (Guilty.) One of the top reasons these users looked away from the TV? To use their smartphone. (Again, guilty.) So, what does this mean? Hopefully you’re leveraging mobile to reach new buyers and hopefully you have a mobile strategy. (And if you don’t, we can help.)
